WAYLAND — Pulling up a chair around the dining room table to eat a meal, play a game, or simply spend time with family and friends is an easily overlooked moment in the day-to-day life of a home. At Parkview Home, however, staff and residents renew their gratitude for this overlooked piece of furniture thanks to recent grants that allowed them to purchase new dining room chairs.

Parkview Home expressed gratitude for grants that allowed them to replace their 24-year-old dining room chairs.

According to Parkview Executive Director Ron Semler, the home applied for a grant through Henry County Community Health Foundation and received $1,000 toward this necessary purchase.

“We had to do some matching with other grants in order to achieve our goal of buying new dining room chairs, but we just want to thank Henry County Community Health Foundation for their award of $1,000 to Parkview Home to buy new dining chairs,” Semler said.

“Parkview Home has been in business since 1961,” Semler said. “So, because of that we have long term furnishings, and some of our furnishings over in the dining room were over 24 years old.”

Selmer explained that while replacing dining chairs in a single family home might not seem like a very big undertaking, doing the same in a long-term living facility take more money and different considerations to pull off.

“Well, when you figure you have 45 people. You need 45 chairs. That's more than a household would encounter,” he said. “So, we needed help buying new dining chairs to replace the 24-year-old ones.”

Additionally, Semler stated that the type of chairs needed in a medical facility also cost more than your average chair.

“There's always a few things in the back of your mind when you're running a facility or a nursing home,” Semler said. “You have to have chairs that will support people that will last and are easy to move, and you can clean very well. You want cleanable surfaces and strong construction and just comfort as well.”

Semler says that staff and residents alike are grateful for the new furnishings.

“They're beautiful, and everybody loves them,” he said.
